Spent Saturday at George Ranch Historical Park. The camera club has shot there before but this was the first time I had ever been there. It was well worth the drive and now I want to go back by myself or with a smaller group during the week.
I always get to meet ups early so I had plenty of time for a McDonald’s sausage and egg biscuit something I seldom get up and out in time for. Arrived at the park at the allotted time of 9am and shot until around 11:30 when Debbie Henderson and I drove over to the Cracker Barrel for lunch with one of her friends that lives in the area. As I was leaving I saw a church building that I had not noticed before so I drove back to the ranch to shoot it. While I was there I decided to make one more round. As usual this old man came home tuckered out.
In the spirit of the class on Exposure and Metering that is coming up next month I decided to shoot the entire day on Program mode. I keep fighting the all too prevalent myth of not using cameras on Auto and of course that includes Program. Now I can’t speak for brands other than Nikon, but on the Nikon camera with Program mode they can be used as Auto, Aperture or Shutter Priority. IMO it is the most useful choice of metering mode. Everyone takes me on when I say this as they usually confess that they have never used Program. Anyway, I was very pleased with the shots I came home with and as I said am looking forward to another trip to the ranch.

Nice shots, Gary. The first is my favorite. I have had the pleasure of visiting the George Ranch only once, and it was at night during the Christmas season. You should plan an outing to go back there at that time of year. Some night shots could be awesome! Lots of folks in period costumes, campfire, candlelight and fireplace in the log cabin, etc.
