Tomorrow Will Be an Exciting Day

I have been lax all month and let the Learning blog take most of my time and thought. Hopefully, tomorrow that will change. A couple of days ago I discovered that I had lost the battery cover off of the D200. I sent Nikon an enquiry asking if it was user replaceable but I have not heard anything back from them and I can not live without a camera so I ordered a replacement cover attached to a D700.

I have been drooling over the D700 for several months but really wanted to wait until the next model in the series. Now that Nikon just came out with the D3X I figure the D700 upgrade is on the way. But looking at B&H they had six hundred off the D700 body and my desire got the best of me. Besides that the price jump between the D3 and the D3X was three grand so with a comparable jump in the D700 upgrade and I would probably rule it out anyway. So tomorrow UPS will be delivering the D700 with lens.

Since the D700 is a FX sensor and my primary lens the 18-200mm is a DX lens I needed something to replace it. February 1st Nikon is having a "high teens" increase in lens prices so I figured if I was ever going to get the 70-200mm f/2.8 this would be the time. Just wish I thought I could have afforded the 17-35mm at the same time. Then I could probably sell the 18-200mm and the 12-24mm which are both DX lenses. I do have the 50mm f/1.4, the 85mm f/1.4 and the 300mm f/4 which are FX lenses so with the 70-200 I won't have anything wider than a 50 and I have really gotten accustomed to using wide angle lenses, of course on the DX the 12mm is actually 18mm and the 18mm is 27mm, so the 17-35 would cover that range very nicely. I may go back to B&H before the end of the month and see if I can time it to get the 17-35 onto the following months credit card bill. I mean at this point what is another $1500 except the price of a good used car. This wouldn't be so bad but I have got to pay property tax before the end of the month. Jeeze, it's just money, right?

Okay, I'm excited but I think I may have talked myself into spending more money.
