Three Days, Three Photoshoots

Friday's shoot was fireworks at the Kemah Boardwalk. Sugarland had a meet up but they were going to shoot from the parking lot at the marina and I wanted to shoot from the railing on the Boardwalk. We ate at the Cadillac Bar and Grill and got to our spaces about an hour early. Turned out that it was not as crowded as I had anticipated until the fireworks actually started. They moved the barge much closer to the Boardwalk so the lens that worked last year didn't work this year. I wanted to get the boats that surround the barge and the reflections of the fireworks in the water but had to settle for shots of the fireworks alone. Used long shutter speed, 5 seconds to 15 seconds to get multiple bursts. In all I was pleased. At least they were in focus. It took me three trips to achieve that last year.

Saturday was West 19th Street with Houston Photowalks. Since I shoot in this area a couple of time a month or more it is difficult to find new subject matter. Went in a shop we don't usually visit, Casa Ramirez. Was pleasantly surprised. The proprietor was a very interesting lady and they had some very unique items. We made a few stops and, as usual, ended up at Eclectic Home, Alcy's favorite store in all of Houston. In all, after an hours the heat got to me but I came away pleased.

Sunday it was a Pixel Party at the Museum of Natural Science to photograph in the Cockrell Butterfly Center. I'm not much of a butterfly photographer and these are not very Darbyesk. Since I lost my last flash in the flood I didn't expect to do much good but was hoping for the best. A lot of people and not a whole lot of butterflies didn't help the situation. Didn't get to bed until after 2:30am after the fireworks shoot, the walking and heat on West 19th then getting up at 5am to make the Party and I was tuckered out before I began. Need to get my flash replaced and go back when there are less people there. In the meantime I will try to rest up cutting the grass or the neighbors are going to ask me to move.
