First Trip to the Rookery at High Island

Even though I do not have the lenses needed for bird photography Alcy and I decided to give it a try. This is my first trip to the rookery located on the Texas coast at High Island. May rent a lens and go back in a couple of weeks.

  1. It is such a treat to see your photos and read your post! I have yet to go to High Island myself..I don't have the proper lenses for close ups or wide angle shots..I love your use of light and the composition is very pretty :-)

  3. Lisa, thank you very much for the kind remarks. The rookery is a sight to see whether or not you take photographs. I used a 300 with a 1.7 extender which is equal to a 500mm. Having more telephoto power would have been an asset but I am pleased with a first trip. We got there shortly after sunrise and the best light was about an hour or so later because the sun comes up over the back of the trees and everything is shaded at first. I understand a great time is late in the afternoon. We planned on going back but the rain came in and we decided against it.
