The things you learn if you stick around long enough. I had no idea that Houston had a Funeral Museum. Anyway, went there for a photoshoot. Didn't do a lot of photographs. Got very few that I liked, but I guess that is okay. Not sure I really liked any of them.

I must have seen the sign a million times and have always had a morbid curiosity about it. Have told myself I'd go there someday when I got up my nerve. I'm glad to see it is mainly hearses and not what I had imagined it might be.
ReplyDeleteI joked that it would have been more interesting at a time in life when making use of the artifacts was not so close at hand. But it was interesting. Along with the many hearse, which being antique cars I found interesting, there are lots of caskets showing styles through the years. There are areas devoted to the funeral of Lincoln and the Pope, artifacts from the funerals of well know people. It is handled in a way that plays down the more macabre nature of the artifacts. I was there to take photos so I didn't really get into much of the details. Probably should go back without the camera. There are a surprising number of small museums in Houston. Someone should do a photobook on them.
