Disappointing Visit to the Pharmacy

Well, I thought I had a solution—until I went to the pharmacy. Since the doctor suggested that I should enquire about the price, I did. I was thinking expensive might be $150/$200—I’d pay that to get days and nights straight, if it worked. Expensive I learned was $500…plus (I didn’t hear what the plus was because I went into immediate shock.) So now I’m back to scoring uppers—shouldn’t be difficult in my neighborhood. It’s either that or learn to sleep during the day.

  1. Speaking of sticker shock, Ronnie's dermatologist recently wrote 3 RX's to deal with his skin issues. He took the first one to the pharmacy, then later went back to pick it up. Over $264 (our part) for a tube of cream. He said 'no thanks'. He asked them to price the prescription for the pills. It was over $500 to which he said 'no way, Jose'. Later after his skin issues had not improved, he asked me to drop the last RX off which I did. Went back to pick it up and it was going to be over $800 (our part). I reasoned that if he wasn't willing to pay $264 for a tube of cream, he wouldn't be willing to pay over $800 for one either. I left the pharmacy shaking my head. Now we're on to Plan C or D - Bag Balm (recommended by his PCP) at approx $10 a can.

I don't suppose Tylenol PM would help??

  2. Jan, I went through the same thing on meds for my rosacia (sp?) Not that bad but ridiculously expensive. I just determined that I was not so vain I couldn't live with it--either that or I'm too darn cheap to care. LOL

I think right now that the drug companies a padding in preparation for Obamacare. Janet's doctor has insisted on monthly or quarterly visits as compared to previously yearly visits and he does nothing during the time we are with him but fill out paperwork. He took her blood pressure but didn't even check glucose last Tuesday. He depends on me to tell him what medications and what dosage. Of course it is hard to blame either one under the circumstances. You think we got it bad now, just wait. People like Janet will be reduced to a pain killer--I am so glad we do not have children or grandchildren to be concerned about because they are going to pass it regardless of what the American people say.
