The Beer Can House

Today Janet and I went on a photoshoot with the Northwest Houston Photo Club to the Beer Can House on Malone Street. I had been wanting to photogrgaph the Beer Can House since back n the seventies.

I have several other photographs that I will be posting shortly to Flickr but I wanted to get this photograph posted to share. It is my favorite of the shoot even thogh it dosen't say Beer Can House in any way. I have not yet done a birthday photograph of Janet this year and I think this will be it even if it is almost a month late.

There will be an addendum to this post with information on the Beer Can House and possibly a few more photos.

ADDENDUM: The Beer Can House project was started by John Milkovisch in 1968. It took eighteen years to completely cover the exterior of the house with an extimated 50,000 flattened aluminum beer cans (and a few soft drink cans thrown in.) It is located at 222 Malone between Washington Avenue and Memorial Drive (map).

I have been intending to photograph the Beer Can House since the 1970. Finally got around to doing it thanks to the NWHPC. After looking at the exterior photograph of the Beer Can House hung inside I decided there was no way I was going to do an exterior shot that would be as good so I concentrated mostly on looking for patterns. Something like the wall photographs that I ahve geen doing lately. I also shot a few interior photographs. I eighteen of the Beer Can House photographs posted to Flickr.
