Well, yesterday was supposed to be a model shoot but it fell
through for the second time. Yeah, I will try one more but I question my
reasoning. Thankfully old people are patient.
A couple of months ago we photographed in Waller. Alcy shot
a photograph of Mugshot, the owner/operator of the local motorcycle repair/tattoo
parlor. The late evening light was perfect and Mugshot’s life is written in his
face so the photo was really very nice. She wanted to give him a copy so we
drove to Waller instead. Caught Mugshot preparing for Waller’s annual citywide
garage sale by putting the finishing touches on a riding lawnmower that he
hopes to sell. We planned the arrival time to be around lunch so we could stop
in the City Market for one of their hamburgers. I think the reason their
hamburgers are so large is because the wait time between placing the order and
receiving the hamburger is twenty minutes. I think they do that to build up
your appetite. This time we split one. Great burger, just more than one person,
especially an old person, should eat at one time. We finished it off with a
pint of Bluebell each. Having spent two days of pretty intense photography in
Waller it was difficult to find much that was new or a new approach to what we
had previously done. Alcy did do a few photographs of things that she had
missed and of course we spent time at the Guardian Angel Catholic Church. The
interior lights were not on and although the light switches were well identified
I decided that not turning them on would make the photographs different. Didn’t
take very many but I did do a hand held five second exposure of the face of the
large crucifix in the foyer that I really liked. Probably not something that local
priest would care for but an interesting photograph in my estimation. After
shooting in the church we drove down the road to the cemetery. Light was
terrible but I shot a photograph of a tractor in a field nearby that I thought
was okay.
Ran out of photo ideas but not sunlight so we decided to
drive down to West Columbia to the Warner/Hogg Plantation. Got their forty
minutes before the gates closed but we walked around the house once. Think we
will go back after Thanksgiving when they have the Christmas decorations up. We
will get there earlier, I hope. Did my usual coming back to Houston after dark
shots through the windshield photographs even though it was not raining—usually
a prerequisite. I had a long lens so I borrowed Alcy’s camera for most of the
photographs.
So in all, and in spite of the planned activity not working
out, it was a good day and Mugshot finally got his portrait.
