Stirring Memories

The postage stamp stirred a few memories so I went back to look at the photographs from 2010 and 2011. The first year I concentrated on the Patroit Riders then the second mostly on the military. It is always inspiring to see people of all walks of life coming together in such a positive way.

Many companies encourage their employees to become a part of the wreath laying event. In 2010 there were a large number of Kellogg Brown & Root shirts in the crowd.
Members of the military, the ROTC units and the Scouts would generally lay the wreath, take one pace backwards, read the name on the headstone and then salute.

Just before the ceremonies I came upon three elderly veterans engaged in conversation. I started takeing photographs, headshots of each of them. For a few minutes we talked. I wish that I could remember now what we talked about.

This gentleman had just laid a wreath on the grave of a friend. He asked me to take a photograph of him with the headstone. The small orange flags on the right indicate graves where family members of the interred will lay the wreath. The volunteers have been instructed to pass by those graves.

When I first pointed the camera toward Kyle he stopped momentarily for me to take the shot. However I much prefer this photograph of him walking away. He just appeared to be so serious, so purposeful in his stride.
