A New Word

Learned an interesting new word this morning. I was trying to put together some thoughts on one of my photographs that required looking up information on Thomas Kinkade. In one of the articles Kinkade was mentioned as "art's king of twee." Twee? What's twee? It seems that twee is a British word. The pounciation is written "twi:" No idea what the colon indicates so I am not sure if it is Elmer Fudd's "tree" or "twi" as in twilight--so needless to say I can't use it even if I should want to. Just tought I would mention the discovery in passing. According to Encarta it means "dainty or pretty in an overdone and affected way." Now we both know. Yeah,  everyone knew the meaning of twee but me. Okay, so now I know.

Addendum: Well Webester says it is twe with a long "e" so Elmer got it right. Now I can talk about Kinkaid's art.

  1. If it makes you feel any better, I would have guessed it to be Tweety Bird's Christmas twee.
