Texas Skies

I make an effort when I go out to shoot not to predetermine what I am going to photograph. For me that is difficult. On the recent trip to North Texas I wanted to be open to whatever happened but still in the back of my mind there was a kernel of an idea. I love Texas skies and they are, in my opinion, optimal in the Fall. I thought if I could get several sky photographs with typical Texas scenes as anchors that I might have a beginning for the portfolio. I thought about one using the oilfields around Burkburnett, maybe one on the Red River bottom, some with cattle and ranching, some of simply the rugged Texas landscape out toward the Caprock. These were not definitive ideas, but simply a starting point. As it happened I only took one pano during the entire trip. It was shot at Fort Griffin just south of Albany, Texas. It was ill prepared, hand held. I simply took advantage of an opportunity.
