My thanks to Les for the use of his photograph. This is me at the Northwest Houston Photo Club's Portfolio Review Open House, with my photographs of dead fish (I was pleased, no one told me that my photographs stunk).
Actually, I am really pleased. I look better in this photograph than in any photograph that I have seen of myself in a very, very long time. I can see now that for the best results in the future I must make it a point of only being photographed near dead fish.
Joking aside, the Review this year is truly exceptional. There was less participation than usual and it seems that most, like me, failed to send out their usual invitations so there were fewer visitors. But when it comes to the portfolios, they were all very good. I think the review has had a marked effect on the quality of photography that the club members are producing. Many of the members really stretched themselves by doing work that was well outside of their confort zone. The work just seems to be improving each year.
Thursday will be the actual review. I haven’t decided which of the reviewers I will chose just yet, but it doesn't seem to matter. I am familiar with most and anyone of them is very well qualified. Just deciding which ones will like dead fish the best--that's the dilemma.
