Freaky Toys at the Antique Store Continued

And a change of pace...

ADDENDUM: The title of this photograph is Every Woman Has Her Price. Now if you find that sexist, that is your problem not mine. Ever since I photographed Alcy in the bunny ears, she has donned hats and I have taken photographs. This is only one of three that I took at the antique store, but the only keeper. I actually discovered this photograph by accident at the time of conception. When I looked through the camera it had focused on the price tag and immediately the concept was born. I could have refocused, but I didn't. I presented this photograph at a critique a couple of days later. Projected the face is a little lighter and shows a little more detail. There was a comment that it was better with the face darker because it made the photograph about the hat. The photograph is not about the hat. The photograph is not about Alcy--that is why I chose to not focus on the hat; why I chose to make the face dark with just enough detail to let the viewer know that it is a person not a manikin wearing the hat (to say universally "woman" not individually "Alcy"). If I had wanted the photograph to be about something other than the title I gave it, I could have made it about that--I didn't. As I told the person that made the comment, "I did not want the photograph to be about the hat. I wanted a photograph about a woman with a price tag." That is why the price tag is in focus. Some people never seem to grasp the concept that photographs can be viewed metaphorically. Of course, how you feel about finding this photograph in a thread titled Freaky Toys, now that might be another discussion.
